The Monti Prenestini

 The Cupola and the Lion

Capranica Prenestina can be easily recognized from afar by the top of the Church of the Maddalena rising out of the historic center. A small, white cupola endowed with a very particular shape and attributed to the school of Bramante. Step into the beautiful church, admire it from inside and discover a vast amount of precious items, such as the marble lion used as a flag holder and attributed to Michelangelo Buonarroti! Capranica Prenestina is a bustling holiday resort in summer, while its roofs are often covered in snow in wintertime!

The “Mosciarella”, a sweet surprise

All seasons are good for visiting this charming village, but if you come towards the end of November, you must visit the Mosciarella Festival. The Mosciarella is a particular type of chestnut that is dried and smoked within “casette”, stone driers located in chestnut groves. The Mosciarella is so special that it has become a Slow Food Presidium product and a key ingredient for a craft beer!
