The jeweler who discovered a precious jewel!
Imagine being at the end of the 1940s of the last century, having your beautiful villa built on the estate property of your ancestors, and finding out that an ancient roman city once stood there! This is what happened to Corrado Manni, a well-known jeweler from Rome! Thanks to an American academic, Professor Lily Ross Taylor, this place later turned out to be the Roman Municipality of Trebula Suffenàs. Walk into the beautiful garden, where you will find statues, columns and fountains. Visit the place that was once home to the forum! Not far away is Villa Manni, partly built on the ancient thermal complex!
The long journey of Helle and Phrixus.
A myth tells of the brothers Helle and Phrixus, a fierce goddess, a daring escape on a flying golden-fleeced ram, and a ruinous fall into the sea. The Hellespont, a sea strait in modern-day Turkey, takes its name from the tragic fate of Helle, who fell and drowned into its water. This story is depicted with hundreds of black and white tesserae in the large mosaic (about 45 square meters!) found in the Frigidarium of the Thermae of Trebula Suffenàs. Visit the Lily Ross Taylor Civic Museum of Ciciliano to admire it.
