Among peaceful landscapes and sceneries
Roiate has a population of 648 people and sits at a height above sea level of 697 meters on the western slopes of the Monte Scalambra, furthest offshoot of the Monti Ernici between the valleys of Aniene and Sacco rivers. Take a step back in time as you experience a deep sense of peace and inner harmony while being surrounded by one of the most beautiful sceneries that Lazio has to offer. A walk through the village takes you past a small church in Santa Maria La Serra. Originally built as a hermitage of prayer and dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the building contains a 18th-century fresco depicting the Three Persons and a niche housing an older, deteriorated fresco with the Virgin Mary shown as pregnant, a damaged image of the Father, and the Holy Spirit signified by the Dove at the top center. According to some interpretations, this would be the most authentic and ancient representation of the Trinity of Roiate, which seems to want to give a crucial role to the pregnant Blessed Virgin in the Mystery of the Trinity.
Roiate and its festivals!
Every now and then, the stillness and tranquility of the village are interrupted by merry festivals and events! The community of Roiate loves to have fun and organize days devoted to tasting! No offense meant to our vegetarian and vegan friends, but we cannot do without mentioning the three-day Roast Suckling Lamb Festival (Sagra dell’Abbacchio), which takes place in September since forty years! The Olio Novo is celebrated in November and in August the Calici & Sapori is another occasion to party! Come, visit and above all taste the quality of local products, such as the Roiate truffle and delicious cheese!
